Paul A. Rahe: We live in a dangerous time. In times of terrible economic stress, people are apt to ignore foreign affairs. It is in times like these that nations sew the seeds of future defeat.
FP: Rahe is exactly right. Dominant powers decay from inside, usually via self-destruction.
