Imagine you’re in the Obama White House, and this is what you face. Democrats lose a special election in a congressional district they have controlled since the 1920s and which was framed as a referendum on the president. There’s a possible scandal brewing over the White House’s effort to rush federal reviewers for a decision on a nearly half-billion dollar loan to a solar-panel manufacturer, Solyndra. The most recent Census Report shows median household earnings fell for the third consecutive year, back to 1996 levels. A record number of Americans are in poverty. In Afghanistan, the Taliban mounted a fierce assault on the U.S. embassy and NATO military headquarters in Kabul. A new CNN/ORC poll shows Obama’s disapproval rating has reached a new high while the number of Americans who think he is a strong leader has dropped to a new low. And that’s just today.
FP: The more important question is "Did the American public learned anything?" and my guess is that it has not. If I had to bet, I would predict Obama re-election, in which case only God can help us (and I am an atheist). The reality is that (1) the forces that are bringing the US (and the West) down are too powerful to overcome (2) one of them is leadership crisis that accompanies such irreversible declines and of which Obama and its opponents are examples. With the US going down the drain on each possible dimension, the latter argue about vaccines and the social security being a Ponzi scheme. Egypt on the edge:In reporting out yesterday's story on how the Administration helped rescue six Israelis in that country's Cairo Embassy, I was struck by how close the situation was to going horribly awry. As Netanyahu aide Ron Dermer told me, officials in all three nations were concerned about "the danger to the six people inside and the danger of many of those rioters being killed as well-- because they were armed inside."
"You could have had a disaster on your hands that would have had strategic repercussions for everyone," he said.
That disaster was averted, U.S. Ambassador Dan Shapiro told me, by "minutes." After I filed, my editor and I were talking about how Egypt has faded from the radar -- how it has gone basically unmentioned, for instance, in the presidential debates -- but how likely a crisis there is to shape the course of the campaign or the next presidential term.

Some US Jewish groups ask Congress not to cut aid to PA
The Israel Project, J Street implore Congress to continue funding Palestinian Authority, even if the PA goes ahead with its unilateral bid for statehood at the U.N. • Both groups say funds go to PA security forces to the mutual benefit of Israel too.
FP: Jews are their own worst enemy. They keep kissing others’ hands no matter how genocidal, in the vain hope they'll be spared the hatred. Those who don’t realize they must win will lose.JoshuaPundit: PLO's US Ambassador: 'No Jews Will Be Permitted In Palestine'
The 'military occupation' nonsense is comical, since the majority of those who identify themselves as 'Palestinians' live under full 'Palestinian' control, in Gaza and in area C in Judea and Samaria. But putting that aside, from Mr. Areikat's statement I assume that he and the 'Palestinans' would thus have no problem whatsoever with Israel transferring those members of its population who identify as 'Palestinians' from Israel to their new reichlet, correct?
No, not at all. Not only do the 'Palestinians' want a judenrein apartheid state of their own, they refuse to recognize Israel as a Jewish state and insist on the right to swamp Israel with violent 'refugees'.
I hope every country in the who votes to unilaterally declare a 'Palestinian' state and every one whom supports it realizes that not only are they endorsing the breaking of international agreements but openly endorsing racism and apartheid.
Given how many of these people and these states spend a great deal of time decrying these very things, there's really only one explanation of why they would make an exception when it comes to Jews and Israel.

Rasmussen: 26% Support Elevated Status of Palestine, 38% Say It Will Hurt Israeli Peace Talks
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters shows that just 26% believe the United Nations should recognize Palestine as a new nation and grant it full membership in the UN, while 34% are opposed. However, 40% of voters are undecided on the issue. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
FP: I have never been too persuaded by the vaunted “popular” American support of Israel in the conflict. If these are the percentages, then I would not count too much on it if I were Israel: clearly Americans don’t have a good grasp of the conflict. Anyway, American public opinion has always been flaky and crises tend to turn everybody against the Jews, sparing nobody.
